EMDM Project: International Master in Intercultural Business

MAGELLAN is an international higher education project developed under Erasmus Mundus Design Measures (ERASMUS-EDU-2024-EMJM-DESIGNM), part of the Erasmus+ program of the European Union that supports the creation of new joint Master’s programs. The project aims to establish a fully integrated international study program leading to a joint degree, co-designed and delivered by a consortium of European universities.

The project is managed by the University of Economics in Katowice, which oversees overall academic coordination, project management, quality assurance, and compliance with Erasmus Mundus standards. Partner institutions include Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera, University of Debrecen, and University of Economics – Varna. All partner universities contribute collectively to curriculum design, academic content, and program implementation, and are responsible for delivering coursework in their respective countries.

MAGELLAN is designed as a mobility-focused Master’s program, fully aligned with the Erasmus Mundus philosophy of academic integration and international learning. The planned program structure includes one semester at each partner location, offering students the opportunity to gain academic and intercultural experiences across multiple European higher education systems. The first semester is scheduled in Katowice, the second in Debrecen, the third in Varna, and the final semester in Valencia, creating a clear, progressive international study pathway.

Within the framework of Erasmus Mundus Design Measures, MAGELLAN emphasizes the planning stage of the joint program. Activities include collaboratively developing the curriculum, learning outcomes, admission standards, mobility options, governance and management structures, quality assurance processes, and recognition procedures necessary for a future joint degree. At this stage, the project does not fund student scholarships or the program’s operational delivery.

The strategic goal of MAGELLAN is to develop a high-quality, innovative, and globally integrated Master’s program that can advance to the next phase as an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s (EMJM). It is designed for students from both the European Union and outside it, seeking advanced education in digital innovation and intercultural business within a fully integrated European academic environment.

The project was officially launched during the kick-off meeting held at the University of Economics in Katowice in January 2025. A subsequent in-person meeting took place in Valencia at Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera, further strengthening academic coordination, mobility planning, and dissemination efforts within the consortium.
